Fay Kahn - Artist

Cascading Trumpets

Statement:

I aspire to reflect joy and optimism in my artwork. The natural world, real and imagined, inspires me. I am a watercolorist, and I use the medium in several applications: watercolor paintings, pen and ink drawings with watercolor washes, wax resist batik with watercolor, and collage using hand painted papers.

Biography:

I grew up in upstate New York, and developed an appreciation for nature and the enjoyment of the outdoors. Gardening, art, sewing and cooking were skills that I learned during my school years that I still enjoy today. I attended Hope College in Michigan, and became an elementary school teacher. I continued to explore painting, ceramics and photography on my own, and traveled throughout the United States.

I moved to the Northwest in 1979, and fell in love with the beautiful landscapes, the climate and the people. I met my husband in Vancouver, and we have two daughters. I continued with my teaching career, first in the Head Start Program, and then as a substitute teacher for the local school districts. Before retiring in 1999, I taught the art program at a private preschool.

Since that time, I have pursued my own artistic interests. I have had the opportunity to learn watercolor techniques and be inspired by many wonderful teachers. I belong to Southwest Washington Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society and Western Colorado Watercolor Society.
